THE Bishop of Salisbury has named Canon Sue Groom as the new Archdeacon of Wiltshire.
It follows the appointment of the Venerable Ruth Worsley as the Bishop of Taunton.
Currently completing a doctorate in theology and ministry with Durham University, she will leave her two posts early next year, as a parish priest in Henlow and Langford in Bedfordshire, and as Diocesan Director of Ordinands in St Alban’s.
Canon Groom said: “I am excited to be taking up this post with its emphasis on developing parish ministry in a diocese which has happy associations for me through my previous involvement with the Southern Theological Education and Training Scheme (STETS).
“I look forward to getting to know the people and the churches of the Archdeaconry and supporting them in their desire to be flourishing communities of prayer, service and growth.”
A service will take place in Devizes on February 22 to welcome her into the role.
Archdeacons carry out their duties under the direction of the Diocesan Bishop. They ensure that organisational aspects and processes of the Diocese affect parishes positively and effectively.
They are called, with the Bishop, to take a lead in mission, helping facilitate and stimulate growth through shaping the culture and direction of the diocese, developing resources and offering support as required.
