TOWARDS the end of last term, a group of girls from Years 7-10 collectively took part in a 6 week Martial Arts and Self-Defence Workshop, led by James Cowan from South Coast Kickboxing. James has almost 40 years experience in delivering a range of Martial Arts and the group certainly benefitted from his expertise, with many of the girls being complete beginners entering week 1!

There was huge progression over the course of the six weeks, not only with the skills and self-discipline learnt, but with fitness too. There was also a lot of fun had by all and some group members definitely surprised themselves with how strong and capable they actually are.

Ms Bowring who organised the club explained, "It was a complete joy to see the girls flourish! It’s not often that we see Year 7 girls taking part in clubs alongside Year 10 girls but they really supported and encouraged each other. The best part for me was seeing so many girls taking part that might not typically choose to attend extra-curricular sports clubs. This just serves to prove that there really is a sport out there for everyone!”

Many thanks to James and Amy from Southcoast Kickboxing who were so encouraging and inspirational and did an absolutely fantastic job!
