Nuneaton 1

Salisbury City 2

TWO last-gasp goals in an emphatic finish transformed Salisbury City’s fortunes at Liberty Way as they came from behind to destroy Nuneaton’s unbeaten record.

After a goalless 73 minutes, Salisbury fell behind to Nuneaton’s top scorer Louis Moult, who fortuitously picked up James Armson’s off-target effort inside the area and curled round Will Puddy for his ninth goal of the campaign.

Salisbury urged forward in search of a response and it looked like it wasn’t coming when Clovis Kamdjo nodded softly into the palms of James Belshaw in the closing stages.

But the visitors in the 87th minute were thrown a lifeline when Dan Fitchett was shoved to the floor by Gavin Cowan, who could have seen red for an off-the-ball incident in the first-half, in the area.

Ben Wright, within a minute of coming on, sent Belshaw the wrong way from 12-yards and lashed his effort into the top corner.

The equaliser stifled the hosts and two minutes later the visiting supporters went berserk.

A quick throw on the right wing caught Nuneaton sleeping and Fitchett squared across the face of goal for a rampant Elliott Frear to meet and fire an explosive shot into the top of the net for the winner.

The mighty comeback left Mikey Harris ecstatic as his side climbed into fifth and stretched their unbeaten record to seven games on the bounce.

“What a fantastic level of resilience from the lads.”

“I’m over the moon with the way we fought back and picked up all three points at the inform team of the league. I believe if we got one we could go on and win the game. Chances for both sides were limited but I think we probably shaded it in terms of possession and chances.

“Winning away games are like gold dust. It’s pleasing to be up there but at this stage our position doesn’t mean a lot.

“It’s important now we put Saturday to bed and start preparing for Tuesday and hopefully continue this run we are on.”
