IT may be only one small step – but South Wilts, pictured, are on the road to Lord’s in the ECB national indoor six-aside cricket championships.

They retained their Wiltshire title with comfortable wins over Winsley and beaten finalists Swindon Asians to line up a regional play-off match against Poole Town at the Hurn Cricket Centre, Christchurch on Sunday.

South Wilts went on a run spree in their county semi-final tie, posting 152- 2 on the strength of knocks from Rob Pittman (37), Tom Pearce (26), Sam Pittman (28) and Christian Pain (26).

Winsley were dismissed for 94.

Christian Pain cracked a hard hit 42 as South Wilts managed a par total of 115 (Sam Pittman 26) in the final against Swindon Asians, who had previously beaten Great Bedwyn. Asians replied with 78-4.

Sarisbury Athletic, beaten national finalists at Lord’s in 2013, are also involved on February 16 and will face Newport in the Fairway Sports Complex, Lake.

If Sarisbury Athletic and South Wilts win, they will go through to the ECB Regional Finals at Taunton.
