REIGNING athletics road race champions City of Salisbury are looking to up their game in the New Year following a disappointing start to the season which has left them ninth in the league.

Despite having the same squad that has conquered the Hampshire road league competition for the last two years, injuries and absences have struck hard.

It means that after five races much work has to be done to catch up with leaders Stubbington Green.

The woman’s squad are also languishing in ninth and with Sally Greenslade down in 31st place in the individual rankings they are desperately awaiting the return of star runner Faye Parker to move up the leaderboard.

The same could be said for the men, with top racer Stuart Holloway a disappointing 16th which means that there is scope for improvements in the New Year.

First match of 2015 is the fiercely-contested Stubbington Green 10k, on Sunday, January 18 when City of Salisbury's resolve will be tested to the full.
