MORE than 340 orienteers from across the south west were put through their paces in a closely-fought Sarum Saunter.
The event, which incorporates the South Central Orienteering Association Championships, planned and organised by Sarum Orienteers, was based at Sidbury Hill, Tidworth on Sunday.
Winners on the top courses were: Tom Bray (Southampton Orienteering Club) black course; Jan Trevnicek (Thames Valley Orienteers) brown course; Clive Hallett (Bristol Orienteering Klub) short brown; Eddie Narbett (Bristol OK) blue; Fiona Bunn (Thames Valley) short blue; Ian Cooper (Berkshire OK) green.
Good performances from Sarum Orienteers derived from Rob Ashton (third black), Peter Hambleton (fourth short green), with newcomer Dean Hodgson (fourth orange), showing great promise for the future. Juniors Matilda Thirkell and Max Duncan were fourth on the yellow and white courses respectively.
Saturday sees Sarum Orienteering Club host the Compass Sport Cup/Trophy Round 1 at Fonthill.
Novices and newcomers can attend an evening training session at Salisbury and South Wilts Sports Club on Tuesday at 7pm.
