IN today's match day programme Salisbury City manager Nick Holmes has paid tribute to opponents Histon's rise to the top of the table.

"Today's match has been a main topic of conversation for many weeks," writes Holmes.

"Histon's good string of results and our little hiccup has meant a points difference that leaves us further apart than anticipated, but we are still first and second.

"They have been an effective side for a few years, and we have similar virtues.

"They are a very friendly club. They have not changed their method, and like us they still have players that were successful in the Southern League.

"For both teams to get promotion would be great for real non-league football people - no major egos, just honest hard-working football lovers."

Histon, who won 2-1 on Saturday at home to Bognor Regis Town, remain ten points clear of the Whites, who picked up their second win on the bounce at the weekend, beating Sutton United 1-0 away courtesy of Matt Tubbs' third minute goal.
