WITHERINGTON Farm Fishery will be closed on Saturday as 130 anglers compete in one of the qualifying rounds for this year's national Fishamania competition.

The competitors will be using all the fishery's lakes so there will be no room for pleasure anglers.

Reid's Tackle will be open as usual for anglers whether or not they are fishing the competition.

Prospects are looking good, as in addition to carp and tench, there have been plenty of silver fish caught with good quality bream and roach.

A match at the fishery over the weekend was won with 127lb from Sellwood Lake and a second place bag of 90lb from Cottage Lake.

The glorious Easter Bank Holiday weekend saw plenty of anglers out on the region's lakes and fishing was good. Carp, tench, roach and bream have been coming to the nets and with the good weather set to last until the weekend at least, it should be another good weekend's fishing in store with the bonus of a sun tan as well.

Trout fishing at Avon Springs, Durrington, continues to be good with an 8lb 4oz rainbow caught on a damsel from Club Lake and from Willow Lake one of 8lb 2oz, which was caught on a damsel.
