POOR execution cost Salisbury RFC at undefeated Maidenhead as they were left staring a hatful of missed chances in the face to share the spoils.
The Green and Whites' usual prolific prowess was absent on the 4G pitch at Braywick, drawing11-11 in South West 1 (East).
Dan Jeffries' men had enjoyed possession in abundance, with Liam Gilbert and Tom Ranaboldo both carrying well and Dave Tonge and Charlie Jennings posing a threat.
A probing kick from Jennings gave Salisbury a great field position but poor ball retention meant the opportunity was lost.
Maidenhead infringed at the breakdown and Tom Lane kicked the visitors into a 3-0 advantage.
The hosts got the on the scoreboard when a quick set piece ball was kicked left for Tom Simpson to catch and canter over for 5-3.
This galvanised Salisbury and a period of pressure ensued but the hosts broke from deep, and they secured a penalty and, with it, increased their lead to 8-3.
The visitors continued to build moves but were seemingly unable to make the final pass and the ball continued to go to ground.
But finally a move, which saw the ball switched right and left, culminated in Rob Best diving over for a try.
Early in the second half, Lane’s firing boot landed a penalty from 40 yards out but the visitors' ill-discipline cost them as the hosts levelled again at 11-11.
Lane had the chance to secure victory late on but his kick drifted agonisingly wide, his first miss in a dozen kicks at goal in the past two matches.
Jeffries, perplexed by the number of simple errors following last week’s gold star performance, said: “It was a very frustrating day, we dropped points that we should have safely tucked away."
Salisbury now enjoy a week's break before locking horns with Newbury at Castle Road on October 10.
