FARLEY Cricket Club’s Mike Covill was confirmed as the 2015 Hampshire League’s leading runscorer at an awards night in Basingstoke.
Covill’s prolific summer saw him rack up 1,110 runs, with four centuries including a double ton against Sway. It left league statisticians reviewing the history books to see if it was a new record.
But although Covill was a few runs short of the all-time best in breaking the coveted 1,000 run barrier, he smashed Farley’s club records and was almost 400 runs clear of his closest rival in Regional Division One West.
Two other Farley batsmen also made the top 20 of the RD1W list – Andy Coveney and BJ Cole – as did Winterbourne pair Jamie Harvey and Craig Johnson.
Farley spinner Jake Hand narrowly missed out on the RD1W bowling award – his 31 scalps just one short of the winner – while Andy Stagg finished as third highest runscorer in RD3 North West.
