AN unbeaten century from Jonathan Beck got Burley’s season off to a super start when they beat Fawley 2nds by six runs in the new County Division 4 West at the Waterside Sports Club.

Kieron Hudson (28) gave Beck good support in a second wicket stand of 52 and then Beck put on 52 with Guy Clifford (26) and 75 unbeaten for sixth wicket with Craig Doick (14 no) as Burley finished with 222-5, Beck making 106 not out.

Fawley were always slightly behind the clock and, although Leach hit an unbeaten 76, they finished just short on 216-5.

Ellingham 2nds travelled to Dinton where they were stopped at 168-6 after a third wicket stand of 74 between James Terry (77) and Andy Donoghue (32) with skipper Richard Pearce taking 3-29.

Although Ellingham’s skipper Andy Jones (4-19) and Andy Weeks (2-27) kept Dinton in check, they scraped home by two wickets off the last available ball thanks mainly to O’Neill (35) and Hannaford (28).

Chasing Ampfield’s 199 at the White Horse, Verwood finished well short on 141. John Driscoll (4-32), Ali Gajic (2-31) and Jerry Millward (2-25) were Verwood’s main wicket takers and then Charlie Gajic (68), Luke Hancock (26) and Driscoll (28) scored the bulk of their runs.

Ellingham were well below par for their Division 1 match with St Cross Symondians 3rds at Picket Post going down by 99 runs.

The visitors amassed 261 thanks to Steve Berryman (108 no) and Brad Aldridge (58) with new skipper Henry Shutler taking 5-41 alongside Jim Edwards (2-56), Bobby Bull (2-43) and Ali Redfern who conceded just 12 runs in ten overs.

With only Mark Burrett (46) and Edwards (22) showing any real form, Ellingham were dismissed for 162 in the 40th over.

In County Division 3 South, Woodgreen rallied after slumping to 109-6 but still lost to Gosport Borough II by 20 runs at Privett Park.

Mark Penny (3-36) and Richard White (2-45) were the pick of the visitors’ bowlers and Scott Taylor hit 70 in Gosport’s 211-5.

Woodgreen lost had both openers by 21 before Jon Nash (53) and Penny (22) added 57 before they collapsed and it was left to Andy Parker (46 no) and Josh Griffiths (26) to revive their fortunes with a seventh wicket stand of 77. But with Mark Oxford taking 6-50, they were stopped at 191-9.
