TWO medal-winning swimmers from Rio 2016 presented a seven-year-old boy with a national swimming accolade.

Olympic diving bronze medallist Daniel Goodfellow and Paralympic swimming gold medallist Ellie Robinson, both of whom shone at the summer games, handed the ASA Learn to Swim’ Gold Award to Tadghan Woods.

Sandroyd School pupil Tadghan was one of many winners at The ASA Aquatics Awards 2016, held at Birmingham University’s Great Hall.

Tadghan, who has been at the Tollard Royal school since September, has been learning to swim for just over a year.

He suffers from severe glue ear, and in the past has relied on using a hearing aid. Despite initial concerns with his ability to hear instructions without his hearing aid during swimming lessons, Tadghan has blossomed and managed to move up through the swim classes to Level 3.

In addition, he has recently achieved his 200m award.
