JAMES Hayward smashed a typically cavalier half-century as South Wilts chalked up a comfortable Southern Premier League T20 Cup first round victory over Langley Manor at Bemerton.

He hit three sixes and six fours in a 28-ball 50, sharing a rapid 71-run stand with Joe Cranch (27) as the Manor bowlers were put to the sword.

After they had departed the run rate barely slowed as first Ben Draper 59 and then skipper Rob Pittman with 34 not out and Alex Baum 21 not out continued the onslaught until the final ball as South Wilts scored a daunting 196 for three after their 20 overs.

Scotsman Alex Baum claimed an unbeaten 21 as South Wilts rattled up 196-3 before pegging Langley Manor to 102-6, with Will Wade and Rob Pittman each taking two wickets for a total of 43 runs between them and Luke Evans took one wicket and having bowled four overs for just eight runs.
