THE New Forest Primary School at Landford, Nomansland and Hamptworth have once again been awarded the Gold standard award in the Sainsbury School Games scheme.

All the children in Key Stage 2 (juniors) enjoyed a wide range of inter house tournaments within school such as netball, skittleball, rounders, table tennis, football and orienteering.

This year saw the inter house cross-country run take on a new name as the hugely successful Run 4 Fun(ds) which was run over 1km, 2km or 3km by every child in the whole school. It raised more than £5,000 in sponsorship towards the development of the school libraries.

The school also competes in a wide range of sports across the Salisbury area such as tri golf, tag rugby and kwick cricket.

A school spokesman said: "We are very proud of our achievement again this year to have all fifty-five Year 5 and 6 children having represented our school in at least inter school event. Many of our Year 3 and 4 children have also been in teams thanks to the dedication of our teachers and teaching assistants who run clubs throughout the year. Older children run lunchtime activities as ‘Playleaders’ to support active break and lunchtimes.

We are particularly proud of our success in various sports including netball, with our team winning the Salisbury district finals and progressing to the Wiltshire County netball finals. Also, our girls relay team won the Salisbury Stingrays swimming gala and Laila Dear won the girls individual event. In running, our under 9 boys won the medium schools category for the Salisbury mini-marathon with Otto Jenner winning the under 11 boys individual event and Catherine Payne winning the under 9 girls race."
