BURGATE Sixth Form pupil Lewis Tribe, recently represented England in the Cerebral Palsy Football World Championship in San Luis, Argentina.
England achieved their highest ever position in the tournament, finishing fourth. They breezed through their group which included Japan, Venezuela and Holland. Winning all three games scoring 25 goals and conceding none.
In the quarter finals they edged past USA with a 2-1 win. However they suffered a tight loss to Paralympic silver medallists Iran in the semi-finals and then Russia in the bronze medal match.
Lewis, the youngest member of the 14 man squad at 17 played against Japan and Venezuela scoring twice against the latter. Lewis said this of his time in Argentina: “It was an incredible experience. Training and playing with a great squad of dedicated and talented players was fantastic”.
Tribe hopes to maintain his position with the squad and is targeting a place at the European Championship in Spain next year.
