BEMERTON Heath Harlequins open their Wessex League Premier Division campaign this Saturday.

Bemmy have a tough opener as last season's third place side Sholing are the visitors.

Then on Tuesday night, they are away at newly promoted Tadley Calleva.

Bemerton finished 11th in the Premier Division last season and finished their pre-season on Tuesday night with a narrow 2-1 loss to Fawley.

Bemmy boss Rae Hughes said: "The club's aims for this season are to build on last season.

We will try and get off to a better start and just add more consistency all through the side.

"We have a bigger squad this season although a few experienced players have moved on. I have bought in five or six more local players that I believe should already be playing at this level.

"They have fitted into the group well and will add competition for places in every position. I am will continue as always to try and add more quality to the side which is a constant process.

There are changes in the management team as Hughes explained and said: "Andy Nash has stepped down as assistant manager to concentrate on off the field tasks but still very much involved in the club.

"Jack Slade has agreed to be my assistant which is fantastic for the club. Jack has played in this league for over 15 years and has lots if experience he can pass on to the younger players.

"Jack will still continue to play when needed. Stuart Lindsay will continue his role as head coach and Jimmy Richardson as our goalkeeper coach."
