DOWNTON were unable to build on a midweek impressive cup win over Wessex Premier side Andover New Street as they lost in the FA Vase.

The Robins made their exit beaten narrowly 1-0 at Eversley and California last Saturday.

The previous Wednesday, Downton won their Wessex League second round tie in Andover 3-1.

The visitors won the tie thanks to three unanswered goals in a three minute spell in the first half.

Declan McGregor was the first to find the back of the net after 37 minutes.

He then turned provider a minute later for Shaun Prentice, who on the turn fired home a second.

Downton then added a third before New Street could recover as a cross from Prentice was only half cleared for James Clark to score.

After the interval, New Street did pull a goal back eight minutes from time from a header by Jazz Beavis.

This Saturday Downton are back in league action when they entertain Whitchurch United.

Then on Tuesday night, they face Laverstock and Ford in the Salisbury Hospital Cup quarter-final clash.
