AMESBURY returned to winning ways in the Wessex League Division One with a 1-0 home victory over leaders Verwood.

The Blues welcomed back Paddy Creese in goal for his first appearance since last season's injury away at Hamble.

They also added Cameron Roach to their squad following his short spell at AFC Porchester and Tyler Brockway after five weeks out due to injure.

Amesbury started off quickly with several key attacks coming from the right hand side where Luke Greenway was giving the left back for Verwood a day to forget.

The goal came from Jordan Matthews after great work down the right again from Greenway who put it on a plate for Matthews to put Amesbury in front which was fully deserved.

The Blues back line was again showing great discipline and composure not letting Verwood get a shot on target the whole of the first half which, left the Verwood centre forward so frustrated that he elbowed defender Jordon Matthews but only received a yellow card, he was then removed five minutes later by the Verwood boss.

In the second half, Amesbury came out with same intent to try push for that second goal and Verwood being on the back foot.

Cameron Roach replaced Lee Weeks after with 65 minutes, The left back thought he was being let off with Greenway going more central for the last 25 minutes, but Roach gave the left back a new problem with his pace and direct approach.

Verwood finally had their first shot on target at Creese goal in the 70th minute and after this moment Verwood went to pieces picking up several cards before one of their players was sent off for two yellow cards in a matter of minutes.

George Higgins replaced Tyler Brockway who managed 80 minutes on his come back from injury and Danny Finnigan replacing goal scorer Jordan Matthews.

Chris Raymond in charge for the game with Paul Glover said: "The lads have done themselves proud bouncing back after last weeks defeat. Another three points on board and two clean league sheets in a row gives us something to build on."

Amesbury are away to bottom side Andover on Saturday and then on Tuesday face Ludgershall in the quarter-finals of the Salisbury Hospital Cup.
