FOUR players were sent-off two from each side as Salisbury FC's FA Cup replay at Yate Town ended in explosive fashion.

This was after the Whites came back from a goal down to win at Yate Town to 3-1 and book a trip to Weston-super-Mare in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The home side were much the better side for the first 45 minutes and Josh Ford gave them the lead.

However, just three minutes after the break, Zack Kotwica won the Whites a penalty and Chris Shephard slotted home.

Salisbury who dominated the second half added a second from Jacob Wannell and Lewis Benson made the tie safe in the 90th minute.

Then in added on time, a tackle from Salisbury's Elliot Wheeler sparked a coming together and he along with sub Darren Mullings were sent-off along with two home players.

After the game, Salisbury boss Steve Claridge said: "It was a very eventful game and they deserved their lead at half-time and could have been two up. We had a little luck for a change with fortunate penalty and then we picked them off. It was a real character win."

Talking about the multiple dismissal Claridge said: "Elliot (Wheeler) has caught their guy on his shin pad. I felt it was only a yellow card and no one needed to be sent-off, as there was only pushing and shoving, no punches were thrown."

Looking at the draw for the next round Claridge said: "If I am honest I am disappointed when you look at the teams we could have faced, we get an away game against a team from a higher league which is going to tough, but we will give it a go."

Before the Whites can focus on this FA Cup tie, they have the small matter of two league games starting at home to Staines on Saturday and then away to Walton Casuals on Tuesday night.

Both sides are below Salisbury in the league and Claridge is hopeful of a couple of wins to move his side up into mix and said: "We have not had the best start in the league and I feel we should be higher in the table. We now need to prove this in the next two games."

Chris Shephard who came off on Tuesday night is expected to fit to play on Saturday.
