ETHAN Stonton from Sixpenny Handley was crowned British International Champion in the 10 to 11 year old boys individual kata category at

British Karate Federation International Open in the Leicester Arena

The 11-year-old was representing the Southern England Karate Federation in the two day international level tournament and one of the biggest in the UK karate calendar.

It is attended by squads from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and some overseas competitors, it included competitors from nine nations.

He secured one of four medals won by the Southern England Karate Federation over the weekend with team mates Carla Rudkin-Guillen winning silver in the girls kata, Adam Barnes taking bronze alongside Stonton’s gold and James Arnold achieving bronze in the kumite.

Stonton has worked very hard under the expert guidance of head coach Collin Rudkin and son Danny at the Southern England Karate Federation , training twice a week and as part of an Elite squad most weekends.

He and is a pupil at Cranborne Middle School and achieved his black belt in July.

He will continue to compete in regional and national level competitions and is also hoping to compete in selected European competitions over coming seasons.
