AMESBURY won at thriller at Whitchurch 3-2 in the Wessex League Division One to stay second in the table.
Whitchurch were better side in the first 45 minutes and took the lead thanks to Nick Yeomans.
The visitors levelled in added time at the end of the half as good work by George Higgins down the right, saw him pull the ball back to the edge of the box for Dan Finnigan to rifle home.
After the break, the Blues had the upper hand as front men Jordan Mathews and Finnigan were a handful for the Whitchurch defence.
Just after the hour mark, Mathews scored from close range after sustained pressure and then Finnigan scored a spectacular overhead kick make it 3-1.
Four minutes from time, Whitchurch after a defensive mix-up as Yeomans scored with a tap in from close range .
After the game Amesbury manager Dave Coker said: "This was an extremely important result as Whitchurch which is always a difficult place to visit especially with the weather conditions. Overall I’m very pleased with the squad after 10 games we are in the mix at the top of the league.
Amesbury on Saturday are away at East Cowes Vics in the league and then on Tuesday night, they are also on their travels to Malmesbury Victoria in a Wiltshire Senior Cup first round tie.
