SALISBURY RFC Women kicked-off their season with a series of seven-a-side matches against a combined Winchester and Fleet side.

Despite going down 22-12 they put in a spirited performance, especially with such a high number of players involved in their first ever game of rugby.

A successful recruiting effort over the summer enabled Salisbury to arrange their first XV a-side fixture, however with the scheduled opponents crying off, it was left to a late re-jig to play a shorter form of the game.

In hindsight this was probably a better way to begin for this formative group of players, who managed to not only hold their own, but score two tries, one a wonderful team effort finished off skilfully by Chloe Moss.

The second score was also warmly applauded by a good sized crowd, with Flo Dohollo dummying her way through for a score under the posts, converted by Tess Fitz.

The match was a great experience for the squad, who are always keen to welcome any new players to their Tuesday night training sessions at Castle Road.
