DOWNTON found title chasers AFC Stoneham too hot to handle last Saturday in the Wessex League Division One.

Stoneham in their previous league outing hit nine and are the only unbeaten side left in Division One with nine wins from 11 games.

The home side took the lead against the visiting Robins after eight minutes as Alex Welch was the first Stoneham player to find the back of the net.

Matt Bainbridge then added a second on the stroke of half time to make it 2-0 at the break.

Six minutes after the interval, Will Harris added a third goal for the home side and Eduardo Jiminez scored just before the hour mark to make it 4-0.

Super Stoneham scorer Bainbridge took his tally to an impressive 50 goals in 11 league game as they slotted in the home side's fifth.

Downton, who never gave up, then opened their account as Lascelles Richardson scored.

It was left to Jiminez to wrap up the scoring.

The loss leaves the Robins 14th in the table and it gets no easier for the team, as on Friday night they are away trip to second placed Amesbury.
