ELLINGHAM and Ringwood secured another important bonus point win in Hampshire Division One on Saturday in front of a big crowd at the Raymond Brown Memorial Ground and also qualified for the semi final of the Hampshire Plate, writes STEVE BENSON.

Before the game a memorial lunch was held for Mike Cockram, the club’s former fly half, who sadly died a year ago and it was fitting that his son Charlie was in the starting line up in the centre.

The two sides had drawn each other in the third round of the Hampshire Plate and rather than require Ventnor to travel over from the Isle of Wight twice, the fixture was played as a double header for both the cup semi final place and the league points.

In a fiercely contested first half Ellingham’s full back Dominic Pitt (pictured) scored a hat-trick in the first 20 minutes.

Wing three quarter Chris Frost also scored a try and kicked two conversions to give them a 24-0 lead at the break.

In the second half further tries were scored by fly half and captain Henry Benson, centres Charlie Cockram and Matt Raybould and back row forwards Corben Hills, Jack White and Oli Grant.

Frost also scored a second try and kicked a two further conversions to make the final score 63-0.

The result leaves Ellingham in third place in table two points behind Farnborough and Alton.

There final game of 2018 is away at Trojans II.
