DOWNTON were unable to sign off their Wessex League Division One home campaign with a win as they lost to promotion chasing Hythe and Dibden 3-2.

The visitors had very much the better of the early part of the game as they took a 1-0 lead and then added two more before the half hour mark.

Hythe were then reduced to 10 men as Dan Steer was sent off and just before the interval the Robins hauled themselves back into the contest thanks to TJ Moseley.

The Downton striker added another to his tally for the season to set-up a tense finale, but the home side were unable to get an equaliser.

The Robins can make sure of sixth spot in the table with a victory in their final game at eighth placed East Cowes Vics.

LAVERSTOCK and Ford also lost last Saturday going down 2-1 at home to Fawley.

Russ Jones scored the only goal of the first 45 minutes, but the visitors hit back after the interval taking the win thanks to goals from Peter Southwick and Tom Munday.

Lavvy, who are 11th in table complete their Division One campaign on Saturday when US Portsmouth are the visitors.
