SOUTH Wilts Grammar School Ski Team won the CAT3 secondary schools team category against some very strong competition from schools from across the southern region at the Alpine Ski Centre at Lordshill in Southampton. The winning CAT3 team comprised Holly Greenhalgh, Georgia Phipps and Ella Ten Doeschate.

Ella Ten Doeschate also came second in the individual female CAT3 age category and Holly Greenhalgh was fourth in the individual female CAT2 age category, narrowly missing out on third place by 0.2 seconds.

Also taking part at the Southern Schools Open Ski Championships was Sophie Trowbridge who will be joining the school in September who came third in the individual female CAT1 age category for her primary school.

The school ski team comprises girls from years seven to 10, and was set up with the help of a small group of parent volunteers as skiing is not one of the schools mainstream sports.

This week is National Schools Snowsports Week until Sunday.

This is an annual event put on by Snowsports England (nssw.co.uk) giving young people the opportunity to get into snowsports for the first time, to give them a new experience and potentially a hobby for life.
