FOLLOWING the successful completion of the Hampshire Road Race League, City of Salisbury Athletics and Running Club athletes turned their attention to the track last week, writes DI CROSS.
Last Tuesday, Will Barnard got things off to a great start by winning the Hampshire Schools County under-13 javelin in Southampton. His throw of 38.83 metres was not only a significant improvement on his personal best, but also set a new club record.
Senior track athletes headed to Croydon on Sunday for the next leg of the Southern Athletics League.
Despite fielding a slightly depleted team, the club was waiting to have its victory confirmed as this paper went to press. This keeps the team at the top of Division Two West after four matches.
Away from the track, Elise Jones completed the epic Race To The Stones 100k ultra from Lewknor in Oxfordshire to the stone circle at Avebury in Wiltshire, in 16:15:23.
Mel Holloway ran the Wyvern 10k in 51:39, finishing 11th in his category, and three club road runners, Fi Thatcher, Paul Holt and Anita Holt, wove under the city of Bath to complete the intriguing Two Tunnels 10k.
