DOWNTON returned to the top of the Wessex League Division One after they hit visiting Pewsey Vale for five on Tuesday night.

The victory moves them two points clear of second placed Hythe and Dibden and three from four other teams which includes Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

The Robins won Tuesday night's contest thanks to four unanswered goals in the second 45 minutes, after the sides went in at half-time level at 1-1 with Ross Bentall scoring for the visitors.

TJ Moseley led the scoring on Tuesday night for Downton with two goals taking his tally to 10 for the season putting him second in the golden boot race behind Bemerton's Justin Bennett who heads the list with 12.

The other three goals came from Larbi Laurance, Liam Dance and Josh Henson.

The Robins will look to remain on the top perch of the division on Saturday when they travel to mid table Petersfield.

However, the Hampshire side are in great form having won their last six games their latest win being a Tuesday night win at Bournemouth Poppies in the FA Vase.

Their next home game will be a juicy looking local derby clash with Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Last Saturday, Downton's run in the FA Vase was ended in the first round, when they were beaten by Hellenic League Division One West side Thornbury Town 4-0.

The visitors were quick off the mark as opened the scoring in the fourth minute and netted just before the break, before scoring two more after it to complete the victory.
