DOWNTON have their biggest game of the season so far, when local rivals Bemerton Heath Harlequins are the visitors on Saturday.

Last Saturday, the Robins lost to in-form Petersfield and with it slipped off top spot in the Wessex Division One and were replaced by Bemmy, but they in turn lost on Tuesday night to United Services Portsmouth who took over top spot.

So going into this weekend's mouth watering contest Downton are fourth and Bemerton third.

Last Saturday at Petersfield, both sides swapped chances before the home side took the lead.

Will Webb worked his way along the byline and drove the ball low and hard at the near post and it went in to the net off the Downton goalkeeper Ernest Osei.

The Robins went looking for an equaliser and Laurance Larbi shot was blocked on the line in goalmouth scramble after corner.

Petersfield’s Low was then denied one-on-one by Osei.

soon after, Downton leading scorer TJ Moseley was forced to limp off after he was unable to shake off an injury from earlier in the game.

Both sides came close on the re-start with Low’s shot saved at the second attempt and sub Josh Hewson firing in to the side netting.

Petersfield doubled their advantage on 71 minutes as Low sent Olly Kershaw free on the left and his cross was missed by all apart from sub Marvin Orepo at the far post who scored with his first touch of the ball.

The Robins hauled themselves back into the contest as Diego Romero’s cross was converted by Jamie Waters, but were unable to find an equaliser, as Petersfield made it eight wins in the trot.
