LAVERSTOCK and Ford encountered a trip to the Isle of Wight on Saturday but not much else as their fixture away to Newport was abandoned at half time.

With the score at 1-0 to the home side, Liam McConnell's side were left just as disappointed with the official's decision due to the nature of how the game had gone in the opening 45 minutes.

Despite being a goal down to a rare home chance we had found ourselves unable to get past Gary Streeter in the home goal.

He made at least five great saves and was their man of the match.

McConnell said: "The decision was perhaps the right one based on the fact he was thinking about the players safety as the pitch was flooded at the interval.

"However I don't know why a decision to call the game off in the morning was not taken. A little bit of common sense should have been applied. The forecast was set in all day and the pitch was only just passed playable at 3pm!"

One bright note from the day was the impressive opening 45 minutes debutant Owen Mussell made in for the suspended Pete Fletcher.

McConnell added: "Owen is another of the club's youth products who has been part of Dave Campbell Smith's successful under-18 side and he's been learning his trade in the reserves all season putting in some great performances so to see him step up was pleasing, a great start to his senior status."

Tuesday (October 29) night, Laverstock are at home to Whitchurch United.
