READERS of the Salisbury Journal can help one of their own Lucy-Jane Matthews to glory in the British Junior Female category in the annual awards of the Athletics Weekly magazine.

Salisbury’s Matthews has been selected in the final six for the award which is run by the Athletics Weekly and decided by a readers’ vote.

So this is where the readers of the Salisbury Journal come in as their votes to help her win the award.

The 17-year-old hurdler has had a superb season and broke the UK under-18 record to claim a European under-20 bronze in the 100m hurdles as the youngest athlete in the field at 16 at the time

It capped a great year for the teenager, which also saw her represent Great Britain and win at the Mannheim International Junior Gala setting a new UK National Age 16 record.

Matthews also won the national titles for the under-17 60m hurdles under-20 100m hurdles.

She then went onto to the double again to become double South of England champion.

The teenager finished the year ranked number one at under-17 60m hurdles and also under-20s 100 m hurdles.

In the British Junior Female category the Salisbury athlete is is up against the fellow Great Britain internationals, which includes 400 metres runner Amber Anning, 800m specialists Isabelle Boffey and Keely Hodgkinson.
