DOWNTON kept up their promotion push going as they beat visiting Fawley 3-0

There was a solid start from a strong Robins side which saw lots of early action at the nest.

The Robins seemed to have the ball over the line in the first few minutes with a powerful low shot from TJ Moseley which was hit so hard it sent the goalkeeper into the net, which may have blocked the linesman’s view to take an early lead.

The tricky Romero had plenty of action and Fawley simply could not live with the inform winger. With the Robins gathering momentum the visitors had no answer and home side soon took the lead.

A perfectly flighted corner from waters was met by the oncoming Dan Savage who nodded in to put the home side in front.

Chances fell to Moseley and Robbie Owen and it was only a matter of time before the Robins struck again.

On 30 minutes Romero’s through ball found James Clarke saw him in on goal only to be chopped down in what should have been a red card. Up stepped Howe with a blistering free-kick from 25 yards out and the goalkeeper did well to get a touch only to parry into the oncoming Moseley whose first time shot crashed into the roof of the net to take the Robins two up at the break.

After the interval, Downton’s on loan goalkeeper Harrison Bruton was called into early action and was in fine form to deny a visiting striker. The home side made good headway and again Moseley terrorising the defence and with 55 minutes gone he had the ball in the net with some excellent work only to be denied by a dubious offside decision.

Plenty of hard work from the central duo Craig Tyson and Jamie Waters saw off any progression from the visitors.

With 20 minutes left, the Downton skipper found himself inside the box with an open goal only to shoot into the side netting.

The Robins continued with Laurance Larbi and Romero finding more and more room as time ticked away.

Downton hitman Moseley then struck again from a tight angle after some nice work from Howe and Waters.

The Robins continued to pressure the Oilers and should of added to there tally.

Another solid performance from the Downton defence with Savage leading the way into another impressive performance and the all important three points.

Downton manager Ben Smith said: “We got off to a great start today with lots of early chances and it set the mood for the boys to play the way they did.I think we had the ball in the net three more times today and they all seemed perfectly good goals and when it’s so tight in the top half these decisions could be crucial.

“We will keep going and see where it takes us. Overall myself and Rich can only praise the lads for a very strong performance against a hardworking side that we have recently struggled to beat.”

This Saturday Downton are away at Whitchurch and then travel to Bemerton on Tuesday night.
