LAVERSTOCK and Ford built on their midweek cup success with a comprehensive 3-0 victory away at Fawley in the Wessex League Division One on Saturday.

Having not recorded a goal let alone a win at The Waterside in the previous two seasons, on paper it was meant to be a difficult afternoon.

However, they could not have got off to a finer start, after good work by Chae Sykes, Russ Jones saw his effort parried into the path of Tommy Campbell-Smith who tucked home inside two minutes.

Lavvy spent the next 20 minutes dominating proceedings and Campbell-Smith was guilty of missing two good chances to put the game out of sight.

The home side showed their threat and Tom Roberts needed to be alert to prevent an effort.

Plenty of corners were whipped in under the bar but Lavvy stood tall and saw out the half ahead.

Lavvy started the second half in much the same fashion as the first, Jones and Sykes going close before Jones was played through by the returning Archie Lovegrove on 51 minutes.

He twisted and turned his way through before smashing home his side's second goal.

The lively Jake Rawkins nearly killed the game off, a flowing move saw his effort go wide.

The visitors third goal then came courtesy of Sykes, on 72 minutes, after he barged his way through on goal before blasting home to confirm the three points with a 3-0 away win.

After the match manager McConnell spoke to Journal Sport and "We have to thank our groundsman JP for getting Tuesday's game on, we were sluggish and off the pace but we needed that to blow the cobwebs and you could see the form returning of many today.

"Fawley is a tough place for us to come so we needed to stamp our authority early so when Tommy (Campbell-Smith) popped up inside two mins that was ideal.

"They could not handle Jake (Rawkins) today and that gave others so much freedom. It was as comprehensive an away win as you could wish to have. Our aim is to deal with the number of games coming thick and fast and just try to keep building on these results."

Next for Laverstock on Tuesday night is a home game against East Cowes Vics, before on Saturday they entertain another side from the Isle of Wight in Newport.
