LAVERSTOCK and Ford continued their recently found form with their third league win and clean sheet on the bounce following a comprehensive win against an inform Verwood Town at the Dell.

With many other league games falling victim to the torrential weather, Laverstock’s groundsmen should be praised for their efforts in ensuring the pitch was in excellent condition to handle the downpours.

Their efforts must have been noted by Lavvy as they started with great intent and found themselves a goal up inside 10 minutes, a Jake Rawkins corner was met by a bullet of a header by Lewis Barr marking his return to the starting line up in emphatic style.

Laverstock continued to dominate their opponents and created more chances with some free flowing football. Verwood were soon able to apply their own pressure going close on a couple of occasions but found Alexis Aguer in fine form.

The second goal came on 30 minutes but at a cost. A cross was met by Dom Jackson who turned home his effort but injured his ankle in the action which led to a lengthy stoppage - the midfielder left the pitch on a stretcher.

An injury like that could have distracted the hosts but in fact it had the opposite effect, Three minutes after the restart a Lewis Wakeford cross was controlled by Lovegrove teeing up Jake Rawkins for his second in two games.

Jackson’s replacement, Pete Fletcher made his impact just before the interval, another great block from Aguer fell to Guthrie who’s effort beat the keeper only for Fletch to clear off the line ensuring the three goal cushion remained at half time.

The second half was more of the same, Laverstock took full control and frustrated their opponents for much of the half. Chances were limited but the goal of the game arrived on 62. The impressive Jim Ward broke up play, progressed forward and unleashed a rocket of a right foot rasper which flew into the stantion sending the home crowd delirious.

With changes made, Lavvy saw out the win and ensured they maintained their good recent form.

Manager Liam McConnell spoke to Journal Sport following the win: “Given the opposition and how well they are performing this season combined with the weather, we made that look easier than I could have anticipated.

"The boys were in fine form today, it’s been like that for a few weeks now, it’s taken us a while but we hope we can continue like this. We are still missing some key members of the squad such as Chae, Tyler, Jordon and Charlie and now we add Dom to that list so we have to hope it doesn’t affect us much and the lads can continue to step up in this fashion”.

Lavvy take on East Cowes Vics away this weekend.
