BEMERTON Heath Harlequins continued their charge for the Wessex League Division One title with a thumping 6-0 win over Verwood Town.
The league leaders made quick work of their lowly opponents, with Rudy Plummer opening the scores – and his account for the club - after just 10 minutes of action.
Just 20 minutes into the game Eddie Perrett made it two after fastening onto a Justin Bennett flick on, before five minutes later Bennett himself grabbed Harlequins’ third of the afternoon.
The goals resumed five minutes after the break, with Kane O’Keefe heading home from a Danny Young corner.
Provider Young then became a goalscorer 10 minutes later, pouncing on a loose ball to make it five for Bemmy.
With 10 minutes to go Devon Arnold was felled in the box, allowing Bennett to fire home a penalty for his 32nd league goal of the campaign.
Elsewhere Downton ended up 3-1 winners away at Romsey thanks to a Samuel Howe brace and a Cameron Butler strike.
In the Wessex Premier, basement boys Amesbury gave themselves a fighting chance in the relegation battle by defeating second from bottom Hythe & Dibden away from home.
Only their second league win of their campaign and first since August, a Scott Hassell double gave Amesbury a vital three points.
It now means that the Bonnymead outfit are two points behind Hythe with two games in hand – but still some distance of safety, with 14 points between the Blues and Christchurch in 19th.
