BEMERTON Heath Harlequins saw off one of the chasing pack in the Wessex Division One title race as they edged past Newport 1-0 at Moon Park.

Kane O’Keefe celebrated his 100th game for the club with the game’s only goal, with the eventual match winner coming in the 20th minute.

The result ensured Harlequins remain top of the division despite the best efforts of second placed Folland Sports and Andover New Street in third, who won 8-1 and 7-1 respectively.

Games across the Wessex League’s two tiers were preceded by a minute’s silence for Freddie Jones-Fontete, a Laverstock & Ford player who tragically lost his life during the week.

Downton rose to sixth place in the Wessex Division One after a 3-0 victory away at Fawley. Oliver Davies, Samuel Howe and substitute Daniel Clarke all picked up a goal apiece in a relatively routine win.

At the bottom of the Wessex Premier, Amesbury Town fell to yet another loss.

Hamble ended up 4-1 winners at Bonnymead Park.

Josh Carey grabbed a consolation in the 87th minute well after the damage had been done by the away side.

Lewis Nagle, Sanchez McClean, Ryan Wilkins and Kelvin Robinson bagged for the visitors.

The result leaves Amesbury rooted to the bottom of the division, 14 points away from Christchurch and safety.
