LAVERSTOCK & Ford boss Liam McConnell says his side's emotional victory over Romsey Town "will live long in the memory".

Lavvy were in action for the first time since the death of their player Freddie Jones-Fontete last month.

And they came from behind to eventually triumph 3-2 thanks to goals from Chae Sykes, Russ Jones and Jake Rawkins, the latter scoring in the final five minutes.

"That's a win that will live long in the memory," McConnell told the Journal.

"Yet again, against a bit of adversity this group find a way. I've never known a side like it, the absolute determination and the will to never give up is just incredible.

"It was the polar opposite to our last win against Andover Town, which was disciplined and controlled. The emotions were running high on Saturday. We wanted to make it a special day to remember Fred.

"There were tears before the game, there were tears when Jakey smashed home the winner and at the end you could see the outpouring, they are all hurting right now but my word, they did him proud."

Also in Wessex One, Andover New Street played out a goalless draw with leaders Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Ringwood Town overcame Millbrook 2-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Hamm and Joss Holford and Downton lost 3-2 at Petersfield Town, despite an Oliver Davies brace.

Up in Wessex Premier, rock-bottom Amesbury Town picked up just their 10th point of the season, holding Portland United to a 0-0 draw.
