LAVERSTOCK & Ford made it 10 wins in a row for the first time in their Wessex League history, with a dominant 4-0 hammering of New Milton Town.

The first real chance of the contest turned out to be the opener. Energetic Jim Ward won a clever interception and broke forward, his pinpoint cross picking out Russ Jones, who was on hand to convert his 24th goal of the season.

That seemed to ignite Lavvy, roared on by 157 in attendance, and the second goal came before the break. A Jake Rawkins corner was superbly timed by Archie Lovegrove, who powered home a header.

Chae Sykes almost made it three on the stroke of half time, but his header hit the post and bounced to safety.

Lavvy moved 3-0 up less than 10 minutes after the restart. Lester Barr nodded down for Jones to bag his second of the day.

Laverstock were now in full control, adding a fourth when Lewis Wakeford fired home from the penalty spot.

Boss Liam McConnell told Journal Sport: "We went into the game with a new kind of pressure on us. We had gotten ourselves into a play-off spot with our last victory, so it was a case of, could we hold onto it?

"New Milton are a dangerous side and we needed to be on it.

"There was a real buzz and energy about us all afternoon, they couldn't live with that.

"We still have work to do, we know a play-off spot is in our hands, but all that concerns me right now is trying to make it 11 league wins in a row in what will be another tough game next week."

In the season's final round of regular fixtures this weekend, Laverstock host Ash United.

Bemerton Heath Harlequins will be seeking the victory they need to become Wessex One champions, when they host Andover Town.

Bemmy won 5-0 at East Cowes Victoria on Saturday, with goals from Harry Beckley (2), Justin Bennett, Ronan Clancy and Daniel Young.

Up in Wessex Premier, beleaguered Amesbury Town were humbled 12-2 at Fareham Town.

They end their sorry season at home against Blackfield & Langley on Saturday.
