A MUCH-IMPROVED performance saw Farley secure their first win of the campaign by 55 runs at home to Old Basing seconds, writes Paul Roberts.

Farley were happy to be given first use of a dry track, and were looking comfortable when second-wicket pair Archie Ayling (51) and the returning Ramesh Gurung (60) put on a century stand.

But after they fell in short succession, Farley failed to capitalise on some mixed bowling and ended up bowled out for 224.

The visitors found runs hard to come by and were reduced to 36-2 after 11 overs.

A third-wicket stand offered Old Basing some hope, before Sam Burton claimed his second scalp.

Farley continued to bowl and field tightly and wickets fell regularly - Manny Gurung grabbing three with his off spin.

But though the result was in no doubt, two wickets were still needed off the final over to secure maximum bowling points.

Up stepped Iain De Weymarn and, after a run out on the first ball, he left it to the final delivery to claim his maiden scalp for Farley.
