SALISBURY City picked up where they left off last season...with a trophy.
The Whites ran out 3-2 victors in the Southern League Challenge Cup against a hard-working Hitchin Town, who more than played their part in an enthralling tie.
All five goals arrived in the first half.
City took the lead in the ninth minute via Paul Sales, but were pegged back inside 90 seconds when Carl Williams caught Ryan Clarke in nomansland.
Matt Tubbs then headed City back in front only for David Deeney to level again for the visitors.
Tubbs' second goal on 39 minutes was to prove the decider.
Tubbs, named In-Excess man of the match, and Sales were replaced by Robbie Matthews and Declan McGregor on 74 minutes. Earlier, Simon Browne had left the bench for Jon Beswetherick at the start of the second half.
Southern League chairman Ken Turner presented the silver cup to City skipper Aaron Cook, with British Gas Business representative Richard Jenning, whose company are the new Southern League sponsors, assisting with the presentations.
Reaction from Whites boss Nick Holmes and City's players to follow...
