MATT TUBBS: "It's good to get on the scoresheet again and hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

"It's nice to get a bit of silverware to get the season off to a good start, but I really can't wait for next week.

"Lewes are supposed to be one of the top teams to watch so it will be a great test to see what we can do against them."

TOMMY WIDDRINGTON: "For entertainment value it must have been brilliant and we showed what we're capable of going forward in the first 45 minutes, but uncharacteristically we conceded a couple of goals that just aren't us really. The quicker we can stamp that out the better.

"Hitchin are a good footballing side. They've got a guy in charge who's very similar to me. He's got them playing the right way.

"Salesy and Tubbsy were brilliant upfront, almost unhandleable really. And the great thing is we've got two lads sitting on the bench who can come straight on and pick up the baton where they leave it. Just as a defender thinks he's getting a rest from them, we've got as good as again coming on. Robbie and Declan can come on and create havoc and I thought they were unlucky not to score themselves."

JONATHAN BASS: "It was certainly good for the fans to watch. We can't promise it'll be that exciting all the time, but obviously we weren't happy at conceding two goals.

"I thought the first goal was a bit lucky. I think Ryan Clarke was expecting a cross. Unfortunately that happens now and again. The second goal, to be fair to them, was very good, although we let him get past too many people.

"We talked about things at half-time and we were happier at the back second half."

NICK HOLMES: "It wasn't really my sort of entertainment, not when you're leaking in a couple of silly goals.

"The keeper's got caught on the breeze for the first and he probably feels a bit silly. But those kind of goals can happen at times.

"The second one looks a good goal, but it was poor from our point of view. We were too deep. He's waltzed past too many players before he's got to Beswetherick to be fair.

"In the second half they didn't really cause us too many problems apart from the odd set-piece."

"We looked very bright going forward. We always looked like we'd score goals. Salesy and Tubbsy were forever a torment to them and they (Hitchin) had to adjust to the pair of them which made them far less penetrative to us. That's why it got a bit tighter in the second half."
