SALISBURY men's hockey suffered a promotion setback on Saturday after Gosport struck late to secure a 1-1 draw.

The Lower Bemerton side were in pole position for promotion but three games without a win leaves their title hopes in jeopardy.

Struggling to deal with the slow Gosport pitch, Salisbury failed to play the high tempo hockey which has made for a successful campaign.

Nonetheless, they took the lead just 20 minutes into the second half when skipper Andy Renshaw deflected a short corner into the net.

Then, right at the death, an error from centre back Alex Rennie allowed Gosport to equalise from just their second shot.
