SALISBURY Men's Hockey firsts ended the season with a hard-fought victory over University of Portsmouth 3-2.
The visitors took the the lead midway through the first half, Jagjit Marwaha lifting the ball over the goalkeeper after a ball into the D.
UOP equalised before taking the lead with 20 minutes left on the clock.
But a resolute Salisbury, who were bolstered by Jon Powell's return from a ten-minute sin bin, hit back through skipper Andy Renshaw.
And late on Tom Twentyman, who turned 20 last week, transpired to be the unlikely hero by clinching victory for the Lower Bemerton outfit.
"It's been a good season overall, with the new players that have come in, finishing so close to the top is a fantastic achievement," said Renshaw.
"It's a shame the results in the last month may have cost us promotion, but we'll be back with a similar team next year, and hope to be promoted then!"
