Star striker Justin Bennett has left Salisbury FC, after scoring 42 goals for the Whites last season.

He will join National League South side Oxford City.

Bennett, took to Twitter saying “the decision was not easy, I mulled it over for days as last season was one of the most enjoyable.”

He added in his Twitter post “whilst Steve [Claridge] made me a reasonable offer to stay, it was still short of my deal last year.”

Adding: “It was an opportunity to play in the National League South that I couldn’t turn down.”

The striker joined from Gosport Borough last season and helped Salisbury finish second and secure a place in the playoffs in the Evo-Stik Division One South and West last season.

Bennett, missed games towards the end of the season with a hamstring injury which he picked up in the Whites' win over Winchester City on March 14.

Following his return from injury, the striker only managed to score one more goal before end of the season.

But before being sidelined his partnership with fellow striker Tommy Wright was unstoppable.

The pair notched up 93 goals between them.

He scored his final goal for the club in a 3-1 away win against Mangotsfield Town on April 15.

Bennett told JournalSport about his time at Salisbury and said: “It was probably one of my favourite seasons of football.

“I loved every minute of it and am sad to go.”

When asked about a possible return to the Ray Mac in the future, he said: “I really hope the door isn’t closed, I’d love to come back.”
