Promising South Wilts teenager Henry Smith, pictured, celebrates his maiden century for Wiltshire, who beat Berkshire by 20 runs in the ECB Under-17 County Championship at Falkland.
The 17-year old from Fovant hit 112 and glued the Wiltshire innings together after a batting collapse saw a promising 117-0 evaporate.
He faced 258 balls and hit ten fours – Smith’s late stand with South Wilts team-mate James Wade, with a maiden 52, helping Wiltshire post 342 all out.
Wade’s sibling brother Edward, bowling his leg breaks, took 3-44 as Berkshire, threatening at 227-4, were dismissed for 322.
Reflecting on Smith’s century, Wiltshire Under-17 coach Rob Wade said : “Henry bats very calmly and methodically. He knows his limitations and plays within them.
“I knew he’d be perfect for a two-day game. I needed someone to bat all day and if all others could chip in we would have a decent score. Then we'd just have to bowl them out. It worked.”
