DOWNTON found champions elect Christchurch too hot to handle on Saturday as they went down 6-0.

The result saw the Robins finish 12th in the Wessex League Division One table with 12 wins from 34 games.

Looking back on the campaign manager Ben Smith said: "It’s been a long hard season with keeping players together and trying to keep some consistency within the side.

"I don’t think I have played the same team twice since the start which says it all. Loosing our regular keeper Charlie Aldridge at the start of the campaign was a huge loss and I’ve found it hard to find a replacement.

Smith added: "In total I’ve played seven different goalkeeper and two of them were 16-year-olds which have done brilliantly when called upon.

"Recently I have made some great new signings which I’m looking to build my side around for next season. I’m on the lookout for a striker for next season, which is something we all know we need and hopefully we can become real contenders .

"Behind the scenes it is exciting times with the new development side and the under-18s which will hopefully start to feed the first team. We will start pre-season in the last week of June and go again."
