Salisbury Boxing Club’s Double Championship Delight

Salisbury City Boxing Club is on a new high with the emergence of two Western Counties Champions, which cover the four Divisions of Gloucestershire & Wiltshire, Somerset & Bristol, Cornwall & Dorset and Devon.

Toby Nicol (Left) entered the 91kg weight class category, while Charlie Castle (Right) entered the 54kg Junior weight class. It was both boxers initial attempt at entering the England Boxing National Development Novice Championships with as little as only 3 previous bouts each.

Nicol later progressed to the National Semi-finals in Truro in a hard fought contest against a more experienced opponent with 9 bouts, Frankie Moran (Army). The second round saw an accidental head clash cutting Moran’s eye and putting a halt to the contest, where the 5 Judge’s score cards gave a split decision of 3-2 in favour of the Army boxer.

Castle went on to reach the National Junior Finals in Solihull against his Manchester opponent Reece Delaney (Northside), widely tipped to win the Championships with a 9 fight record and collecting all unanimous decisions throughout the competition. In an incredibly close fought contest, going the distance saw Castle defeated by the narrowest of margins and a split decision of 3-2 on the 5 Judge’s scorecards.
