I AGREE that the £80 parking clocks are tempting targets for thieves (Forest Journal, last week).
I cannot calculate the cost of a dedicated registration system for the long-term parking clocks, but surely it would result in the £80 charge increasing significantly.
Instead, gently scuff a small area of the displayed side of the clock with, say, an emery board.
With a permanent black felt-tip pen, write your car number on the area. If you share the clock, write both numbers.
The abraded surface will allow ink penetration and prevent erasing with solvent, rendering the clock useless to anyone else.
Ask our new wardens to keep an eye open for incorrect use and report thefts to the police.
Problem solved.
