THE newly opened buildings at Sarum Academy are an inspiration to us all.

The construction is beautifully designed and finished to a high standard.

The classrooms are spacious, flexible and clustered around elegant ‘petals’ that offer students and teachers communal meeting places with fine views across the local countryside.

The welcoming reception area leads onto a gracious concourse with lifts and stairs to the upper floors. A stylish theatre doubles as an assembly hall and lecture theatre.

A light and airy dining area allows for flexible seating where chairs and tables can be wheeled swiftly from one configuration to another.

A building of this quality is a tribute to all who have thought so hard about its purpose and the variety of ways in which it will be used.

It is a tribute to the skill of the architect, Jane Locksmith of Cube Design, and to the professionalism of the builders, Robert MacAlpine.

Above all, it is a potent celebration of the ways in which the headteacher, Ruth Johnson, has worked in partnership with governors, staff, students and teams of talented professionals. Together they have created a place about which all of us can be justifiably pleased, proud and excited.

May it serve as an inspiration to those now engaged in shaping the development of our city centre.
