IF Cllr Chivers is correct (Postbag, October 2) that a Freedom of Information (FOI) request can be refused if the holder of the information plans to put it online as soon as possible, then the law needs reviewing at the very least.
I will be writing to the Information Commissioner to check that this is actually the case and that Cllr Chivers has not been misinformed.
Perhaps it is time for an FOI act based more closely on the American and Swedish models, and for reform of data protection acts which can result in confusion as to what information can and cannot be released by organisations.
Secondly, I would like to start a debate on the issue of some individuals sitting on more than one council at the same time – are there not risks of dual loyalty?
